Business and Faith: The Logic of My Reasoning
My mission is to be providing quality service to your organization as a Christian, just as if I were performing the work for our Lord in a manner consistent with Colossians 3:23. As a Christian, I want to do business with other Christians to bring more tithes and offerings to our Lord's storehouse. I want you to do business with other Christians, I want to serve you, with consistency that is inspired by God's Spirit. With that said, if we work with and for each other, we will increase the size of the Christian community by witnessing to and being a seed for all of the non Christian customers that we serve.
I have heard it said that when one states that they are a Christian business they should expect an increased loss in business all the way around. I know this to be true, for it has happened firsthand. If I had kept my mouth quiet, I would have several more clients than I do presently. Should I change my stance and redesign my business cards, web pages, and eliminate all notice of who and what my ethics and spirituality is based upon?
Some say yes because the increased revenue will provide more to the Lord, our community and ultimately provide an increase in helping our community, witnessing, and bearing good fruit. I have learned to put some space in between my faith and my business beliefs. I need to be respectful of all other religions and personal convictions.
Conversely, it is proven that if I stand up for Jesus I shall be provided for. That does not mean that the business will prosper, because the business is of this world and is ruled by such. This is the logic of my reasoning in that I must know, and be able to operate the business in accordance with the rules of the world, and apply my faith into the principals of this business as I have done, and continue to do.
I am not biased against people or business of other faith, or no faith. I do not impose my beliefs upon my clients, or the subcontractors, consultants and free agents that work with me. I stand up for integrity, and accountability. I am the representation of my spoken word, and actions. I hope this clears up any misconceptions anyone may assume.
In Greek, the word for fish is "ichthys." It is spelled IXΘYΣ--iota, chi, theta, upsilon, sigma. Often the Greek letters are placed inside the fish. The IXΘYΣ is a symbol that concisely sums up the Christian faith: "Iesous Christos Theou Yios Soter" or "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior."
